Memrise is an online learning service which boasts over three hundred thousand courses and offers an app for those busy-bodies who are always on the go. People all over the world commend Memrise for how fun it is, its informativeness, and its effectiveness. Plus, it is free! Languages are one of the more popular courses on the site because for many people, Memrise has made it easier to learn them. I have had the app on my phone for about a year. My course deck includes Basic Basque 1, Drapeaux du monde, Who's that Pokémon?, Identifier les épices, A1 German, Intermediate French, Who Said Me?, Classification décimale de Dewey, Latin, How to Reason and Argue, Basic Bosnian, and Code Morse (the last two I have not started yet). My favorite out of these has to be either the Pokémon one or the Basque one, which is an interesting language! In the future, I will visit the Basque region between Spain and France, so it is great to have Memrise on hand. Memrise is for anyone and everyone, from those who just want a game to sway the boredom away to those who want to acquire a wad of knowledge in an enjoyable, easy way.
Membean ain't free, but if you are a student, maybe you can convince your school's English department to pay for this program. At my high school, there have been mixed reviews in the few months since we added it to our curriculum, but personally, I think that it is a valuable program revolving around the comprehension and the reinforcement of words, provides preparation for SAT tests, and promotes independent study. Each word has its own page, filled with boxes of learning tools, such as Word Variants, Word Constellation, Memory Hook, Examples, and Context. A lot of work was put into this program to engage students in vocabulary learning, and I believe that it can succeed with most people. The Internet has become a convenient medium for sites like Memrise and Membean that assist in cognition to gain recognition for their innovation since the majority of people "go online" daily. More and more people prefer doing things through a computer, phone, or tablet, like, in the case of students, making flashcards through Quizlet. This world seems to be steadily transitioning into a technology-based society.
Meningitis (i.e. the inflammation of the meninges) is rare, with fewer than 200,000 cases in the U.S. per year, according to Google's concise data compiled from several sources. It can be fatal, or something that eventually passes away, like a scare on Halloween, and the symptoms include headaches, chills, lethargy, a fever, and pain in the back, neck, or muscles. Watch out, stay healthy: it affects all age groups!
